Who We Are

Kaye Byrd

What do you do for Van Dyke Horn?

My extensive experience in local and county government allows me to provide high-level strategy and communication to VDH’s large portfolio of utility clients.

What are some highlights from your previous experience?

I most recently served as deputy communications director for Wayne County and communications director for its public works department, where I led strategic communications to engage and inform nearly 2 million residents and other stakeholders in 43 communities. Prior to my work at the county, I worked on Detroit City Council as chief of staff to its Council President.

How do you support the community?

I’m a member of the National Association of Black Journalists Detroit Chapter. When not focused on agency work, I am dedicated to empowering and uplifting women through moderated conversations.

One of your top career achievements:

Establishing Girl Grow Experiences, where I create opportunities to help women focus on changing the way they think about themselves, one thought at a time.

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from Wayne State University where I was a member of its Journalism Institute for Minorities program (now Journalism Institute for Media Diversity).
