Who We Are

Annmarie Erickson, APR

What do you do for Van Dyke Horn?

I bring senior-level strategy and planning to clients in metro Detroit and Lansing. My extensive work with foundations, corporations and nonprofits has resulted in the ability to conduct situational analysis, develop strategic tactics and manage the implementation to achieve results. I also try and have some fun at work!  VDH has a great team.

What are some highlights from your previous experience?

I came to VDH from Henry Ford Health System, where I served as vice president and chief governance officer, but I’m best known for my long tenure at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).  I served in a number of roles at the DIA from vice president of marketing and visitor services to executive vice president and chief operating officer. My communications career toggled between for-profit and nonprofit roles at the Southeast Michigan Chapter of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation Casey Communications Management and Cranbrook Educational Community. I also spent a few years as a radio newscaster in Detroit.

How do you support the community?

I believe strongly in the power of volunteerism and have served as a board member for numerous arts and culture organizations across Detroit, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Pewabic Pottery. I currently chair the board of InsideOut Literary Arts and serve on the board and executive committee of Culture Source.

I am a published writer and poet and have earned accredited status (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America.

One of your top career achievements:

During my time at the DIA, I was instrumental in developing and implementing the museum’s strategy through the City of Detroit bankruptcy, including testifying for the DIA in Federal Bankruptcy Court and assisting in the successful completion of its commitment to the “Grand Bargain.”

Bachelor’s Degree in journalism from Central Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in English/creative writing from Wayne State University, where I was a recipient of the Lougheed-Eldredge Merit Scholarship.

I also earned accredited status (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America.

Favorite quote:

My favorite quote changes all the time, and currently I have two.

“Only when the tide goes out do you find out who’s been swimming naked.” – Warren Buffet

And, I don’t know who first said the other but I believe it deeply, “No justice, no peace.”
